Hand-illustrated botanical labels for Brucan’s bespoke gin collection, crafted with the award-winning Hawkridge Distillery.

In keeping with the house brand style, each label features an illustration of the botanicals used to flavour that particular gin, resulting in a collection of labels that feel distinct from one another, while staying clearly unified as a set.

The gins launched across all Brucan pubs and are now stocked at the Goswell & Bird’s village store.

I began by sketching a range of concepts in Procreate, exploring different ways to incorporate the botanical illustrations while keeping each bottle feeling unique yet part of the same family. Four of the strongest concepts were presented to the client for feedback.

From there, I developed a new set of concepts in Illustrator, refining the direction based on the client's preferences. The final design came together as a combination of elements from across these iterations.

The labels themselves were printed on foil, with both spot and matte UV coatings. This required building fully layered artwork files for the printers, with each part of the botanical illustrations carefully separated into individual print layers: opaque white, CMYK colour, spot UV, and matte finishing.
